TEHRAN -- The Majlis Energy Committee plans to review the Iran-Venezuela gasoline agreement, MP Hamid-Reza Katouzian said on Monday.

The agreement for Iran to buy gasoline from Venezuela will be reviewed due to reports that Venezuela’s gasoline is expensive and of low-quality, the chairman of the Majlis Energy Committee told the Mehr News Agency.
Some companies that export cars to Iran have actually advised the country to use Iran’s regular gasoline rather than Venezuelan gasoline, Katouzian added.
However, the Majlis Energy Committee must review the agreement in more detail to determine if the reports are true, he said.
Asked if the administration is allowed to sign agreements without the authorization of the Majlis, he said that the administration must obtain official permission from the parliament to sign any agreements.
For example, the Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline deal -- which India has withdrawn from -- and the Crescent agreement -- according to which a pipeline was supposed to be built to export gas from Iran to the United Arab Emirates -- were not authorized by the Majlis, which caused some trouble for the country, he pointed out.
But MPs believe that Iran needs economic interaction with other countries and should sign more international trade agreements, as long as they are in the national interests, Katouzian said
